Categories and Correlation of Stress Factors of Middle School Students

Abstract
The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the level of students stress of factors with in categories and the correlation in categories.
Male and female 9th grade 456 students of three middle schools in P city, and two middle schools in D city participated in this study as the subjects.
Instrument was originally developed by Park(1998) & Kim(2000) and restructured by researcher for this study.
The questionnaire was composed of nine categories and 52 items. Data from the survey was statistically processed in terms of mean and standard deviation by using SPSS 10.0 Program.

The results of this study were as follows ;

First, the mean score for the level of students stress was 2.92 and significant factors were teachers and students relationship followed by stress from school works, school life and environment.

Second, the items related to stress among subcategories were as follows.
The factor with the highest stress for the parents and students relationship was "When parents interfere about study or behavior", and that with the family relationship was "When the parents quarrel."
For the school works, the factor with the highest stress was "When they¡¯re worried about their future path", and then teachers and students relationship with the highest stress was "When the student was ignored by the teachers."
For the school life and environment with the highest stress was "when the precious things are lost."
For the relation with friends of opposite sex the factor with the highest stress was "When separation, betrayal, unrequited love from them."
For the relation with same sex friend the stress factor was "When they experience misunderstanding, mistrust and being cast out from the friend."
For the sexual and physical factor with the highest stress was "When they feel the complex about appearance and the characteristics" and psychological states the factor with the highest stress was "When there is not clear judgment about my future path."

Third, the correlation with the following categories was significant ; school life and environment with the same sex friends, the relationships with the opposite sex and the same sex, the relationships with the same sex and sexual, physical factors, and the relationships with the same sex and characteristics, psychologic problems.

In conclusion, this study made it clear that the degrees of Middle school students¡¯ stress varied according to the factors of stress. A qualitative research should be carried out using observations and interviews.
